I've used this girth a few times since my initial review. It drives me nuts that it doesn't have keepers. I like that the girth isn't bulky, especially in this heat, and it's easy to clean. However, because it's thin and pliable, and because of my horse's build, it slips forward and pulls the saddle onto her shoulders--a problem I don't have with my other girth. It also seems to stretch. It had to be adjusted a couple of times during the most recent ride, something I don't have to do with my other girth. This is an okay product, but it doesn't work for me.
Strap that does not hurt and strap that limits the sweating of the horse.
Initial review: I've been searching for a brown dressage girth that I didn't have to a) order from Europe and b) didn't cost half the national debt. I was happy to find this new product from Horze. I received it today. The good: It's made of nice material that has a slight cushion to it (although not heavily padded) and is quite flexible. The binding on the edges also feels soft and I don't think it will rub. The center ring is a nice feature for those who use training equipment. The color matches my Baines havana saddle quite well. The seams are sewn straight and the buckles are reinforced where attached and are well-placed. It should be easy to clean. The not so good: The girth lacks billet keepers so it will look untidy and I think the strap ends will be in the way of my leg as a result. In my opinion that's a pretty serious design oversight, even at this low price point. It also only has elastic on one end and I wonder how easy it will be to keep the girth centered as the elastic loosens with use. My other girth (a black Ovation contoured gel girth), purchased for a similar price, has two pockets to tuck the billets as well as elastic on both ends. I'd like to see the design improved to include these features.
I've used this girth a few times now. I like the material, it's easy to clean and isn't bulky, which I particularly like in this ridiculous heat. However, I find that the saddle slips forward --a problem I didn't have when using my other girth. It also seems to need to be tightened more often than when using the other girth so it's stretching more. My horse has a more forward girth channel and I think this one, being so pliable and thin, probably slides forward, pulling the saddle onto her shoulders. And, it drives me nuts that it doesn't have keepers. Unfortunately this one doesn't work for me.
This is a great girth for the price! It is nice looking and super easy to clean. It fits nicely with my dressage saddle on my Arab. You really can't find a better girth for this price. I love Horze's stuff because it is so affordable and still good quality! The only thing I would change is that there are no keepers on this girth.
