The ideal summer riding jacket has a removable lining that is not too thick. You can then easily adjust your lightweight riding jacket according to weather conditions. The removable lining means, a spring riding jacket can quickly become a summer riding jacket, making your jacket more versatile. An alternative is to buy two riding jackets: one with a thin lining for spring and autumn and a thinner, unlined riding jacket especially for summer. But even a thin riding jacket should be breathable, water-repellent or waterproof, and windproof. Several outer pockets and at least one inner pocket are always useful.
